Catalina Bounces Back for a Toreadore Upset

No one thought that Monterey would struggle through the last few games of the season. After the Lady Dores 1-1 tie with Stevenson and North Salinas' valiant effort to bump MHS from CCS contention, MHS Varsity had to give 110% to beat Catalina.
As usual, MHS scored early in the first half. Chelsea Persons scored the lone goal for MHS. Catalina picked up the pace and scored late in the first half. Monterey lost steam and let the dominate Cougar midfield control the game. Monterey was unable to convert any shots on goal. Final score...2-1. MHS CCS dreams are put on hold until the final game of the MTAL season on Friday: #1 Gilroy against North Salinas.
The JV team really improved from the first game of the season to their last victory over Stevenson. After losing to Catalina late in the second half earlier in the season, the Young Dores were ready for a "W" at home. Although the game ended in a 0-0 tie, the JV team showed great team work and skills, ending their season pumped and ready for next year. Hopefully this was our last game on the current MHS field...Next Year...TURF!!!
Up Next...Awards Banquet November 5th, 6 pm @ MHS Cafeteria.
